The project is located in the heart of Dubai, in close proximity with prestigious institutions such as Rashid Hospital, Dubai Courts, and Dubai Media Center.
The project comprised of a 951m long underpass and involved the diversion of a complex network of services in addition to the implementation of demanding traffic management schemes.
A significant component of the project was that two existing piers of Maktoum Bridge had to be demolished and relocated to make way for the underpass. The underpass was equipped with jet fans, firefighting system, variable message signs, lane use signal system CCTV camera, Tetra System, emergency lighting system, and underpass lighting system, etc. All the systems were interlinked, monitored and controlled by a SCADA network. The underpass was supported externally by a drainage pumping station and two firefighting pumping stations. Three substations were built to supply the power requirements of the underpass and road lights.
